Week 3

With everything nearly finished, Madison began set dressing while the rest of the team manipulating textures to color match and adjusted models as needed. Myriah worked on lighting the original scene and implemented particle simulations into the scene. In this time, Kevin's animation in the bush by the door was completed by Madison.

Week 2

In the second week we looked to finish modeling, begin texturing and have everything prepared to set dress for the following Sunday.

In texturing, all background textures were done procedurally in MAYA, and most of the house was painted in MARI.

Week 1

After dividing up tasks amongst our team of six, we began working to get preliminary models and tests finished within our first week.

Dallas - Modeling background assets (bulldozers, etc.), blend shapes for Kevin

Myriah - Lighting tests, particle tests, model bushes

Madison - Modeling fence, sidewalk, helium tanks

Mallory - Constructing white box, modeling/rigging/texturing Kevin

Brett - Modeling background buildings

Kelly - Modeling entire house, assisting with texturing

Our scene is from the Disney Pixar film "UP".  It takes place in the movie right before the Shady Oaks van comes to pick Carl up and take him to the retirement home.  We selected this image, and this scene particularly for multiple reasons:

  • The scene is fairly static - the camera does not move
  • The house is an iconic model in the movie (and this shot takes place seconds before the house takes off)
  • The overall scene has a good amount of detail, lighting, and texturing to present a challenge
  • It presents opportunities for dust and wind effects, which is a project requirement
